Bluefin Tuna - The School Bluefin Tuna fishing in the offshore waters surrounding Cape Ann over the past decade has steadily improved and in the past five years it has been spectacular at times. Most of the fish are caught 20 – 25 miles off of Cape Ann. 2009 was an excellent year for catching large school tuna (68" / 225 lbs). Late shows of small school tuna in 2009 indicate that in 2010 various size classes of tuna are expected to come into our offshore waters. We'll be targeting all of the year classes in our area. The season will start with the early run in the beginning of June. The fishing will then start to fill-in in July and will peak in late August through late September. Depending upon the feeding patterns of the fish we will sight cast to surface feeders, deep jig, or troll. Most of the fish caught are tagged and released as the limit will be one fish per day per permit (boat). Hunter III has a full complement of big game rods and reels. All of the rods are custom made and specifically designed for catching tuna fish. All of the reels are Penn & Shimano International.
